HISTORICAL CONTEXT
He was serving as a crew member in Lancaster Mk.III JB462 of 12 Squadron, Royal Air Force (RAF).
They took off from RAF Wickenby, Lincolnshire at 22:18 on 30 June 1944 to bomb the railway junction at Vierzon, Cher in order to hold up German reinforcements getting to the Normandy battlefront.
The aircraft was attacked by a German night-fighter and crashed onto the road leading from Vernou-en Sologne, Loire-et-Cher. All on board were killed.
