HISTORICAL CONTEXT
He was a crew member on LCI(S) 539 of 202 LCI(S) Flotilla, Support Squadron, Group J4, Force J. The Landing Craft, Infantry (Small) or LCI(S) was a medium size craft. It carried around 100 troops and was fitted with ramps to land them on the beach.
The craft was assigned to land men of 48 (Royal Marine) Commando on Nan Red, Juno Beach from around 08:30 on D-Day. The exact circumstances of his death are unknown.
