HISTORICAL CONTEXT
7th Battalion, Green Howards landed from 08:05 on D-Day on King Green and King Red sectors, Gold Beach. They advanced through Ver-sur-Mer, supported by tanks of 4th/7th Royal Dragoon Guards and and on to Crépon which they helped clear of German troops.
The battalion continued advancing south and seized an intact bridge at Creully, where they also encountered Canadian troops who had landed at Juno Beach. The battalion finished its advance just to the north of Coulombs. The exact circumstances of his death are not known.
