HISTORICAL CONTEXT
33rd Field Regiment, Royal Artillery was part of 3rd Infantry Division. The regiment was tasked with providing covering fire both prior to landing and once they were on shore.
The first units were due to land around 07:45 on Queen Red and White sectors, Sword Beach but ended up further west between La Brèche and Lion sur Mer. Further units of the regiment landed at intervals on D-Day.
He was killed when a German 88mm shell hit the tank he was in, completely destroying it. There is no known place of burial for him so he is commemorated on the Bayeux Memorial to the Missing, Calvados.
