HISTORICAL CONTEXT
He was a crew member of Stirling Mk.III LK383, 149 Squadron, Royal Air Force (RAF).
They took off from RAF Methwold, Norfolk at 21:01 on 6 August 1944 to carry out minelaying near Brest in order to prevent German shipping inferring with the seaborne supply of men and materials for the Battle of Normandy.
The aircraft was seen to crash in flames into the sea. He has no known place of burial so he is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial to the Missing, Berkshire.
