Remembering Douglas Leslie Finney, Killed in Action, 19 July 1944.

Douglas Finney played in the band and drums of the Herefordshire Regiment. Three other members of the band, George Snowzell, Benjamin Ritterband and Graham Lloyd were also killed in Normandy.

The portrait photo of Douglas was found in a news article in the Tamworth Herald of Saturday 19 August. It gives us some more information about him.

"Mrs. S L Finney, 14 Smith Street, Wood End, has been notified that her son, Douglas Leslie Finney, was killed in action in July 1944. He was attached to the band and drums of his regiment, of which he had been solo drummer since 1941. He was employed at Kingsbury Colliery before joining the Forces in April, 1940."
