Clarence Billingham
This story is shared with the Trust with kind permission from Michael Billingham, first cousin once removed of Clarence Billingham.
Remembering Clarence Billingham who served on HMS Blackwood, Royal Navy and who died on 15th June 1944, age 19, when his ship was sunk by U.767 off Portland.
On the back of his photo was a note, written by his young cousin, Pauline, who my dad thinks was about 4 years old when he was killed. She has put army instead of navy but I think it's all the more poignant for that as she remembers him through a child's eyes.
My dad was 6 when Clarence was killed and we are taking him over next weekend [September 2025] to pay our respects.
