Harold Thorsby

The photographs are shared by the Trust with kind permission from Neil Kipling, grandson of Harold Thorsby

Harold Thorsby was in the Civil Defence before he enlisted on 8th May 1941. He served in the Green Howards in Normandy and Operation Market Garden. I was only 12 when he sadly passed away in 1973 but I always remember his “loot box” which had many German insignia and also a Luger. This was been passed to another family member who I don’t have contact with but I do have these photos as a reminder of his service.
