HISTORICAL CONTEXT

At 06:50 on D-Day 90th Field Regiment, Royal Artillery began its run-in shoot against Jig sector, Gold Beach. This meant that the regiment's guns fired from their landing craft at pre-arranged targets on land in support of the assault infantry, as the craft approached the shore.

About an hour later the regiment's first guns landed and were soon supporting the advance inland. By 16:00 they were in action in the Meuvaines area. He was killed around this time due to shelling by German artillery.
