Peter Rex Langworthy

This story and photo is shared by the Trust with kind permission from Adrian Hughes, Home Front Museum, Llandudno

Corporal Peter Langworthy lived at ‘Harborne’, Abbey Road, Llandudno, and was schooled at John Bright Grammar. He left Llandudno to live with his aunt at Bristol where he worked as a fitter at the local aircraft factory.

Although a Territorial, his status as a reserved occupation meant that he was not called up at the outbreak of the war, much to his dismay, and he tried to overturn the decision on several occasions. Eventually, his pleas were upheld and he joined his original battalion in the Gloucestershire Regiment. He later transferred into the Hampshire Regiment and was killed on 11 July 1944 aged 27. He is buried at Bayeux War Cemetery.
