John Richard Cowley

Remembering my great uncle, John Cowley.

He served with the 1st Battalion, Royal Warwicks in India, for which he was awarded the General Service Medal, 1936-1939, and other unknown places.

He then served in the 2nd Battalion, Royal Warwicks in Dunkirk. On D-Day he landed on Queen Beach part of Sword Beach. It was during the battle around Caen where he made the ultimate sacrifice for his country, 20 July 1944.

He is buried in La Deliverande War Cemetery, Douvres and he is also commemorated on the British Normandy Memorial.

 

His Sacrifice and all others will never be forgotton.
