Hedley John Vicary

Remembering Hedley John Vicary. Whilst doing some research about a family member on Find My Past I came across this article about John Hedley Vicary from Bradninch. Hedley is not a family member but I looked at his entry and found there was not a photo attached. I appreciate it is a grainy newspaper cutting, but you might like to add it to the Roll of Honour.

British Normandy Memorial - Additional Information
Newspapers are a useful source of information about those commemorated on the memorial. As well as having a photo of him, this article tells us that he was in the Territorial Army and had served in Gibraltar and North African before transferring to the Airborne forces. It also shows that 6 months after D-Day some families were unaware of the fate of thier relative and were searching for details. The CWGC Graves Concentration Report shows it could take a long time. He was initally buried in Troarn before being reinterred in Ranville British Cemetery on the 05th October 1945.
