Statement from the Chairman of the Normandy Memorial Trust

 

I am delighted that the Chancellor of the Exchequer has announced a generous donation of £7 million to the British National Memorial in Normandy.

This is wonderful news for all the veterans who have made the case so passionately for a memorial.  I also want to thank very warmly everyone who has contributed.  Your generosity has turned this into a truly national project. The Trust is now well placed to complete the memorial to the highest standard and we pledge to do so.

We do still need your donations. They will be particularly important to enable us to move onto the vital next phase of our project. This will be focused on an educational centre to ensure that the example of those who gave their lives for freedom in the battles of 1944 will never be forgotten.
