Frederick (Fred) Henry Moxon

Remembering Frederick (Fred) Henry Moxon, Flying Officer, Air Bomber, aged 27, Royal Canadian Air Force, son of Thomas and May Moxon (née Mullin), of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Frederick was born at Toronto, Ontario on 1 July 1917. His father, who was deceased by the time of Frederick's enlistment, was born in England and had been a Tinsmith and his mother was born in Toronto. He had two married sisters and one brother, Thomas, who was in the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps. The schools he attended were Keele Street between 1924-1930 and Western Technical Commerce between 1930-1936. The sports Frederick took part in were baseball, basketball, bowling and track and field. After leaving school Frederick worked in Payroll Timekeeping for W.D. Beath & Son between 1936 until he enlisted on 29 May 1942.

After training, Frederick embarked from Canada on 23 June 1943 for the U.K. where he arrived at 3PRC on 2July 1943. He then went to 10(0) AFU on 12 July 1943, 83 OTU 17 August 1943, 1667 CU 28 November 1943 and 12 Squadron on 10 March 1944. Frederick was sadly to lose his life on 1 July 1944, his 27th birthday.

He was killed on his 13th mission attacking Vierzon.They took off from RAF Wickenby at 2218 but were shot down by a night-fighter and fell onto the road leading from Vernou-en-Sologne (Loire-et-Cher).
