Kenneth Allen Ware

Kenneth Allen Ware was the youngest of three sons of Mr Harold and Ethel Ware of 6 Parsonage Road, Amesbury. He was educated at Amesbury Junior and Church of England Schools. His father, Harold Ware served in France with the Wiltshire Regiment in 1918. His oldest brother, Archibald, was serving in India and his other brother, Reginald, would serve with him in Normandy.

Kenneth was employed as a clerk working for Messrs Pickfords up to the time of being called up. He served with the 1/5 Battalion the Queen’s Royal Regiment (West Surrey) and was killed on the 25th July 1944, just two weeks after his brother. He is buried in the War Cemetery at Banneville-la-Campagne about 10Km north east of Caen.

In September an article was published to report on the fact both he and his brother had been killed within a few weeks of each other.

The article reveals that the Ware family suffered much family loss in both wars. "Mr Harold Ware was one of five brothers serving in the Great War, three of them giving their lives and one of these being awarded he Victoria Cross posthumously."
