Robert George Attew

Robert George Attew was born on the 21st of August 1921, the son of Ethel Rose Attew. She later married George J. Daplyn in the December quarter of 1931 at Aylsham, Norfolk.
In the 1939 National Register we see Robert living in lodgings at Poplar Lane, Little Ellingham, Norfolk. He is recorded as being single and employed as a General Labourer . Sadly, I have no information on Robert George Attew, in his early or teen years
He was to find himself fighting on D-Day and laid down his life for our freedom. His regiment landed on Queen Red, Sword Beach but he was Killed in Action on the 6th of June 1944 and was buried at St.Aubin. Then, on the 29th of May 1945, he was reburied at La Delivrande British Cemetery where he now lies.
Robert George is remembered on the Little Ellingham WW2 War Memorial, but his name is spelt ATTOE, Robert.
