A photo and notification of the death of John France was published in the Shrewsbury Chronicle of Friday 18 August 1944. It gives us some biographical information about him.
"Killed in Action Mrs J France, Main Road, Bayston Hill, has been notified that her husband, Major J. H. France, has been killed in action. The son of the late Mr G. France and Mrs S. France, 2 Primrose Cottages, Bayston Hill, Major France served 17 years with the Army. After ten years in India with the 1st Battalion K.S.L.I., he went to France at the beginning of the war and was at the evacuation of Dunkirk."
