Remembrance 2025: Alexander Churchill Becomes First Youth Ambassador
We are proud to share that 11-year-old Alexander Churchill, great-great-grandson of Sir Winston, has become the first Youth Ambassador for the Winston Churchill Centre for Education at the British Normandy Memorial.
In a short video message, Alexander reflects on how honoured he feels to take on this role. He hopes to use his platform to capture the voices and stories of the men and women of the Second World War — ensuring their experiences continue to inspire his generation and those who follow.
General The Lord Dannatt, Chairman of the Normandy Memorial Trust, said:
“Alexander’s commitment at such a young age to remembering the sacrifices of the Normandy generation is deeply inspiring. Earlier this year, he lit the Candle of Peace at Westminster Abbey on the 80th anniversary of VE Day — a poignant reminder that remembrance is not only about the past, but about the responsibility each new generation carries for the future. His voice will help us ensure that the lessons of courage, service and freedom endure for years to come.”
Of Alexander’s appointment, his father and Sir Winston’s great-grandson, Jack Churchill, said:
“The Churchill family is honoured to be involved with this fantastic Memorial and education centre. Alexander is very fortunate to meet some of the hero generation and to bring their remarkable stories to future generations of young people.”
The Winston Churchill Centre for Education was officially inaugurated by His Majesty The King on the site of the British Normandy Memorial on 6 June 2024, the 80th anniversary of D-Day. The Centre welcomes families and school groups and also houses a café and shop. The Centre reopens for Spring Summer 2026 on Saturday 18 April.
