HISTORICAL CONTEXT

He is recorded as being a member of crew of LCT(L) 216. The LCT or Landing Craft, Tank was a large landing craft which was designed for landing tanks and other vehicles on enemy beaches.

LCT(L) 216 took part in the Normandy campaign but was operated by the US Navy. The landing craft number recorded may be incorrect. However, due to his date of death it is believed he was involved in the campaign.

The circumstances of his death are not known and there is no known place of burial for him so he is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial.
